I’m going to start by giving a brief explanation about why I got started with Pre-Paid Legal Services.  For the past 24 years, I have run a company called Priddis Music Inc.  I make karaoke recordings and sell them nationally and internationally.  I began with cassettes, then moved with technology to CDs and then DVDs.  I have a catalog of about 3,000 songs.  We get musicians together and record the songs all over again in the recording studio, minus the lead singer. 

I have always worked hard to make sure all our songs are licensed with the author of the song through the proper agent or publisher and that we pay the royalties for sales of those recordings.  I have paid many hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years in royalties.  Unfortunately, many record labels in the karaoke industry do no get licenses or pay royalties.  That problem, combined with publishers who have gotten greedy or stingy in their licensing practices, has created a difficult situation in the karaoke industry.  Some attorneys, similar to ambulance chasers, appear to have approached the publishers with an offer to collect large sums of money from karaoke record labels, for a cut of the collections. 

We now have some opportunistic attorneys chasing after karaoke companies.  Since their objective seems to be money, more than establishing what is right and wrong, these “karaoke chasers” are going after the companies who they know pay royalties and they stick it to them for more money because it’s easy to get them to pay than to track down the true pirates in the industry.

About 3 years ago, one of these attorneys sued my company on behalf of a few publishers.  That lawsuit was the beginning of a legal nightmare that turned my business upside down.  I ran out of money, and because of that my attorney did not want to help me when a second lawsuit came along.  In my searching for help I found Pre-Paid Legal Services.  I signed up for the service for my business, my family and my employees.  I have had the service for 2 years now.  I’m so grateful I have this service.  That’s what this blog is about - the benefits of Pre-Paid Legal and why everybody needs it.
